Casting

Casting is the process of making sculpture by pouring molten material- often bronze- into a mold bearing the sculpture’s impression. The medium of casting is bronze and molten but it can also vary depending on the artist. I chose to do a sculpture by artist Luis Jiminez. The sculpture is called “Exhibition: The Decade Show: Frameworks of Identity in the 1980s “Southwest Pieta  Luis bases his work of Mexican and European artistic traditions. Luis made his work easy to understand and relate to by the Latino population. His grandfather worked in a sign shop and desired to be an artist, but failed. I feel that Luis Jiminez’s inspiration to achieve greatness comes from his grandfather’s failure.
