Assemblage

Assemblage is an addictive sculptural process in which various and diverse elements and objectives are combined. The medium of Assemblage differs depending on the artist. Artist usually combine objects that inspire them to create a whole.  I chose to do a sculpture by artist Louise Nevelson. The sculpture is called “Homage to the World” Louise’s sculptures all have pieces that a molded together, I believe this is because her family was forced to relocate due to her Jewish heritage.

Modeling

The definition of Modeling is the shaping of a form in some plastic material, such as clay or plaster, in drawing, painting, and printmaking, the rendering of a form, usually by means of hatching or chiaroscuro, to create the illusion of a three dimensional form. The medium of Modeling is clay or plaster, and hatching. I chose to do a sculpture by artist Robert Arneson. The sculpture is called “Laughing George.” This sculpture was most appealing to me because the face of George Washington caught my attention. All Arneson’s sculptures seem to be of people and come off as confusing because they are different. I noticed that all of Robert Arneson’s sculptures do not have bodies.

Casting

Casting is the process of making sculpture by pouring molten material- often bronze- into a mold bearing the sculpture’s impression. The medium of casting is bronze and molten but it can also vary depending on the artist. I chose to do a sculpture by artist Luis Jiminez. The sculpture is called “Exhibition: The Decade Show: Frameworks of Identity in the 1980s “Southwest Pieta  Luis bases his work of Mexican and European artistic traditions. Luis made his work easy to understand and relate to by the Latino population. His grandfather worked in a sign shop and desired to be an artist, but failed. I feel that Luis Jiminez’s inspiration to achieve greatness comes from his grandfather’s failure.

Manipulated Photography

Manipulated Photography is the process of using image editing techniques to photographs to create an illusion or deception. Jerry Uelsmann often uses this technique with the use of his darkroom. He finds material and contact sheets that seem appealing. I feel that Uelsmann’s medium is his imagination because he sees pictures fit together in his head that other might not understand. Jerry Uelsmann does not want to take his viewers to a familiar place; his goal is to transform them on a journey that is profound.  Jerry’s mysteriousness in his work is what sets him apart from other photographers.

Instant Collage

Instant collage is combining writing with light to make a collage. I chose to do a collage by artist Walker Evans. The picture is called "Gasoline Station, Reedsville, W.Va., 1935". The medium of collage varies; writing and color usually is a common theme. Artist Walker Evans typically displays American visual reality in his work. Evans is inspired to capture moments as they come; just the way they are.

Video

Technology has allowed artist to explore a media art called Video. The medium of Video can change depending on the artist. The more sophistication of film can depend on the lighting sound and editing techniques. I chose to do a Video display by Korean born Nam June Paik. Paik does several Video projects. ". I chose the Video display called “Something Pacific; TV monitors in the lobby” Something I found intriguing about the artist was that his family was fled from the Korean War. I feel that Paik's work is inspired by his family’s hardships. Paik also receives inspiration from his love of music, I found out that the artist studied electronic arts.
